Children’s Mental Health Week.

We know that lockdown and the disruption to our lives has been tough on everyone, in particular our young people. We are very pleased that we can help a little with our online lessons that bring structure, routine, social interaction and exercise to break up the week. All of which is good for mental health.

We hope to get back into our halls as soon as we are able, but until then, we are very thankful that Miss Michelle and Miss Fleur are happy to continue to make their lessons fun and accessible. We appreciate the positive feedback we have had from many of you.

You may have seen publicity this week regarding Children’s Mental Health Week, and we have tried to include some different activities, as well as usual exercises, We hope that the lessons go some way to help alleviate the isolation that lockdown brings. Don’t forget the teachers and myself are on hand should you need extra support.

If your child is particularly struggling and in need of professional help, we would like to bring your attention to Fegans.org.uk . St. Fegan’s is a Christian Charity who provides support for families and counselling for children. They are a local organisation and very accessible.

A message from Miss Jodie

Hi there!,

How are you all? I hope you are finding lots of opportunities to keep dancing through Lockdown 3.0. I thought I would send you a little note to say that I have been thinking about you and after some encouragement from Miss Kay, share my news.

I have been busy since Lockdown 1.0 and have finally completed a Master of Arts Degree in Creative Practice from the University of Chester. I have been following a part time programme of study over three years so it feels fantastic to have achieved it. I have learnt lots and it has inspired me to keep exploring how we can promote individuals to be self determined and achieve their potential, something I am very passionate about.

I have also provided an expert commentary on a chapter in a new book called Performance Psychology for Dancers that has just been published. Very exciting!

At the end of the Summer 2019 I was asked to join an advisory board for Sussex Dance Network who are an organisation providing a platform, production support, networking and collaboration in the Sussex area based in Brighton. You can follow them on Insta @sussex.dance.network

I am still working at The BRIT School, mainly from home at the moment like everyone else. My role has changed this academic year and I am now working as Assistant Principal with responsibility for Teaching and Learning. Being part of the Senior Leadership Team has been really exciting and I have learnt a great deal (especially about Gavin Williamson and the DfE response to Covid 19!). I am really enjoying the opportunity to think about optimising Teaching and Learning across the school and to be with the team running a big creative place like BRIT.

I am still undergoing examiner training for the new ISTD Contemporary syllabus which is a super slow process thanks to the current climate but I hope to complete my training this year and get behind a desk with an examiners bell to hand as soon as possible. Likewise I haven’t had any adjudicating since March 2019. I was mid way through a festival when lockdown 1.0 happened. I have dates in the diary for the end of July and I am realy crossing my fingers that the event can take place.

What a strange old time this is! I wonder how we will all reflect on it in a few years time?

I hope you are all well, working hard to stay motivated and washing your hands lots.

Much Love, Jodie xxxx

CUPS & AWARDS 2018/2019

This year our annual presentation and awards afternoon took place at the Jubilee Community Centre on 23rd November.

The event was very well attended and topped up our fundraising efforts for the week which included non uniform sessions and a spectacular raffle with prizes donated by lots of our lovely parents.

We would like to thank parents who volunteered raffle prizes, baked cakes, arranged flowers, chaperones and those and gave up their time before and during the event. We could NOT have done it without you.

Showcase & Presentation of Cups & Awards 2019

We would cordially like to invite you to the Redhurst annual Presentation Afternoon, which this year will be held at the Jubilee Community Centre, Charleswood Road, on Saturday 23rd November between 4.00 and 6.30pm.

You will have received more details via email by now. We hope that many of you will come and support the dancers on the day. In the meantime, we ask five things.

1. That you keep the date/time free, this is always a lovely afternoon, the children love getting together and seeing what they have learnt, it is lovely that all our students and parents have the opportunity to mix and celebrate our children’s achievements.

2. We ask that all trophies that were presented last year are to be returned as soon as possible in a clean condition.

3. Anyone inspired by the recent ‘Great British Bake Off’ please grab your apron and mixing bowl, we will be serving an afternoon tea and any cake donations will be very gratefully received. Don’t start baking just yet, we don’t require your creations until the 16th. Bringing cakes along on the day will be perfect, but if you definitely know you can do some baking, please let us now so that we can relax.

4. Raffle: with every event there is an obligatory raffle. Any donations will be gratefully received. Any profit that we make from the afternoon will be poured straight into show fund so that we keep the costs of the next show as low as possible. You can drop raffle prizes off at class or email [email protected] for other drop-off points. We also need one or two to help organise the raffle, gather the prizes together, make up hampers if appropriate and help on the day. If you think you can help, please contact us.

5. If you would like to volunteer for this or any other event please let us know. We are a small group trying to achieve big things. Simply get in touch.
